How many of you have ever used a compass before? I use one on my smartwatch when hiking in the woods. If I lose my way or get disoriented on a trail, I can use it to find my way back to the correct path. Every trial we go through, every problem we face, is fought on four battlefields.

To the North: Battlefield of the Flesh

The Bible says our human nature, our 'flesh,' has desires that often conflict with our spiritual goals. Overcoming the desires of our flesh is like trying to diet when there's a chocolate cake on the table.

Our bodies might crave that sugar rush, but we know it's not the best choice for our health. Similarly, our flesh might lure us towards things that aren't good for our spiritual health, while the Spirit within us pushes us to make wiser choices. It's a constant battle.

To the South: Battlefield of the Heart

Your heart is an expert con artist, tricking you into thinking you want things you don't need. It can make the wrong things seem okay, spinning a web of self-deception. We often allow our hearts to guide our decisions, but checking those feelings against the truth of God's Word is crucial.

After all, our hearts can be drama queens, leading us down paths that might feel good at the moment but don't align with our spiritual growth.

To the West: Battlefield of the Mind

The world is trying to tell you how to think, how to behave, and what to pursue. Paul advises us to give our minds a total makeover so that we can see the world through a different lens: the lens of the Holy Spirit. When you do this, you'll be able to figure out what's good, what's pleasing, and what's perfect in God's eyes.

To the East: Battlefield of the Spirit

We need to clean up our act, both physically and spiritually. It's not just about avoiding bad things; it's also about keeping our spirits clean and filled with things that are holy and of God. It's all part of growing and perfecting our holiness and becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Conflict exists in every direction we turn, and we can't fight these battles on our own. If we try, we will soon be lost and lose our path. We need to let the Holy Ghost serve as our spiritual compass, guiding us back to the right path whenever we lose our way or stray from it.
